Filmmaker David Fincher and “The Goon” creator Eric Powell, in association with Blur Studios and Dark Horse Entertainment, announced today that they’ve created a Kickstarter account to help bring “The Goon” to the big screen.
True to the comic’s origins, the screenplay is written by Eric Powell. Blur Studio’s Tim Miller and Jeff Fowler will both direct with David Fincher producing. Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown have both signed on to portray characters Franky and The Goon, respectively, and can be seen here in this proof of concept clip.
“The Goon Film has NEVER been in production” said the team on their Kickstarter page. “All the work you’ve seen (animation footage, trailers, artwork, etc.) has been produced independently and out-of-pocket by the creative team of David Fincher, Eric Powell, Blur Studio and Dark Horse Entertainment. We created “proof of concept” footage to show Hollywood the incredible potential of a Goon movie. It was very well received BUT because this movie isn’t a sequel or filled with dancing animals we’ll need more to bust open the gates and UNLEASH Goon and Franky on Hollywood. And by the freakishly barbarian strength of Aunt Kizzie, we’ll find a way to succeed!”
On top of helping the movie to become a reality there are also several swag packages based on varying levels of donation. These rewards range from access to The Goon film production blog, production artwork, and t-shirts. Higher scale donations range from signed original artwork of any character of your choosing all the way up to a private screening in Venice, California with Eric Powell and the film makers as well as lunch with the entire crew.
“The Goon” will only be funded if at least $400,000 is pledged by Sunday Nov 11, 8:35am EST.
