A new Superman comic has him protecting immigrants, one week after the end of DACA.
Superman‘s latest comic book has the character fighting anti-immigration Americans to protect immigrants. It seems like the hero of truth and justice is fighting for illegal immigrants. The comic comes shortly after the United States ended a program which helps illegal immigrants with a path to citizenship.
DACA or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals helped children of illegal immigrants who had no choice but to come with their parents achieve legal status to work or go to school in the country. Whether or not the timing was intentional is unclear, although given the production schedule of comics, it’s unlikely. It was a central part of several years of political discussion so it may be a response to the general concern around the issue.
While it’s hard to know for sure, it makes sense for the hero to help them. He is known for doing such things from his very beginning. He premiered in 1939 and spent a lot of time fighting against corrupt landlords and other injustices as he saw them.
