Superhero TV King Greg Berlanti Speaks Out on SCOTUS Controversy

While comic books fans are busy reveling over the slew of recently released trailers, teasers, and new books, the United States government has been embroiled in conflict. This is no new state of affairs, but the battle du jour is over the President’s choice to nominate Judge Merrick Garland to the vacancy on the United States Supreme court.

The Republican Party, which stands in opposition to Obama’s choice, has repeatedly declared their intention to stonewall any nominee until after the 2016 Presidential election. Obama’s selection of Garland was a measured response to this position, as he has a reputation as being a centrist when it comes to jurisprudence. Despite that reputation, the Republicans remain steadfast in their opposition, something which drew the criticism of one of the geek world’s shining stars, producer/showrunner Greg Berlanti.

The man behind Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow took to Twitter to deposit his two cents.

The response from Twitterati at first has been reasonably measured, a rare sight when creatives step out of their supposed “role” to address issues beyond the scope of their professional lives.

Cheers to TV superhero fans for being polite, at the very least. The rest of the political world could certainly learn something.
