The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Shazam! will be the next movie to go to camera for the DCEU.
According to an exclusive from THR, Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema are planning to shoot the long awaited Shazam! movie as the next film in the DC Extended Universe.
After the massive success of the Wonder Woman movie, Warner Brothers is hoping that lighting will strike twice with Shazam!. Due to how early things are, a lot of details are still unclear while many have come into focus.
The report by the Hollywood Reporter suggests that David Sandberg will direct and Peter Safran will be a producer. They previously worked together on the upcoming sequel to Annabelle. Safran is also producing the upcoming Aquaman movie.
Dwayne Johnson has long been attached to play Black Adam, the titular hero’s biggest villain. There’s no confirmation yet that Johnson will appear in the film.
The film should go into production in early 2018 for a 2019 release as a result it’s hitting theaters before The Flash movie in 2020.
Also referred to as Captain Marvel, the comic is about a young boy named Billy Batson. In the comics, he meets a powerful wizard who gives him the power to transform into a mighty adult hero, but with the mind of a child. He is able to go toe to toe with Superman, causing lots of destruction in the few times that they’ve fought. He can fly, has super-strength, as well as super-speed, along with many others. The powers were given to him from of the magic of the Greek and Roman gods which he can access by speaking his own name.
