Marvel Comics released a second teaser today for their upcoming Inhumanity series from writer Matt Fraction, echoing the mantra of the Department of Homeland Security: “See Something, Say Something.” There has been a theme to this promotion, focusing heavily on Big Brother themes and using an art style which evokes state propaganda. An earlier piece of art warns viewers to “Be Vigilant,” so the idea of watching one’s neighbors appears to be central here.

Described by Fraction as “Game of Thrones in the Marvel Universe,” the event appears keyed to focus on what happens when it becomes possible that a portion of Earth’s population may be Inhumans. Speculation has abounded as to whether or not the Terrigen mists will be involved, and whether Marvel may be setting up the Inhuman population as an alternative to mutants.

The Big Brother narrative is one that is seeing increased use from Marvel in recent months, with Agents of SHIELD focusing on government surveillance of the human and superhuman populations and Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier showing signs of approaching the same core concepts of profiling and preemptive enforcement. It is clearly an idea that Marvel sees as relevant, so it will be interesting to see how the topic is approached this winter.

We’ll continue to update as more news emerges from the House of Ideas, so stay tuned!
