Prolific Seattle cartoonist and pioneer of the underground comics movement, Peter Bagge (Hate, Neat Stuff) is back with another chapter in the ongoing trials, tribulations and every day complaints of his iconic creation, Buddy Bradley. Buddy, the main protagonist in many of Bagge’s books, was a Generation X anti-hero created in the 1990’s grunge-era that quickly became a cultural icon of the Seattle underground and young “slackers” everywhere. Bagge’s new publication, BUDDY BUYS A DUMP, is the third collection of stories revolving around Buddy from Bagge’s Hate comics, including the last nine issues of Hate Annual as well as a new 21-page conclusion to Buddy’s most recent story arc.
To celebrate the publication of BUDDY BUYS A DUMP, Fantagraphics Books in Georgetown is holding an art show and book signing on Saturday, May 10, featuring a display of original art from the book, a signing by Bagge himself and some musical entertainment courtesy of Seattle singer-songwriter Kelli Frances Corrado. The show will run from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM with musical entertainment beginning at 7:30 PM. This event also coincides with Georgetown’s Art Attack event featuring both visual and performing art presentations throughout the neighborhood. After the event, BUDDY BUYS A DUMP artwork will continue to display at Fantagraphics through July 9.
