In the past couple of weeks news has been pouring out concerning Sony’s sequel to Amazing Spider-Man, which is currently filming on location in New York City. First we saw the changes to the Spider-Man costume, which loses the reflective lenses on the eyes, changes the sneaker boots and gloves in favor of the traditional white eyed mask (which you can check out here), and now we see our first shots of Shailene Woodley, who will be playing Mary Jane Watson, on set.
With Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson now in the mix, Emma Stone returning as Gwen Stacy, and Felicity Jones rumored to play Felicia Hardy/Black Cat it wouldn’t be far fetched to think they may be starting to incorporate a classic Spider-Man love triangle (or web?). Also, if there are so many villains confirmed and still being speculated as having roles in the movie, there will have to be origins for all them, which leaves me wondering how much screen time will actually be left for Woodley’s Mary Jane or Dane HeHaan’s Harry Osborn.
As it is right now, I feel that Sony may have bit off more than they can chew when it comes to the script. There’s too much trying to be done in too short of a time, a problem that was a big downfall for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. However, since the film is just starting production, we’ll have to wait for a trailer to get a full impression of how Amazing Spider-Man 2 will work through the problems the third installment of the previous trilogy had. I, for one, am looking forward to it.
