Millar and Murphy Exploit Time Travel in CHRONONAUTS

Chrononauts, a new series from writer Mark Millar (Starlight, Kick-Ass) and artist Sean G Murphy (Punk Rock Jesus, The Wake), was first announced back in November, but yesterday independent comics publisher Image Comics released the first pages we’ve seen since the initial discussion of the series.

Chrononauts is described by Millar as a “buddy comedy” which will feature two genius-level scientists embarking on journeys to various periods in history, often times with personal gain as the goal.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Millar discussed the genesis of the title, saying “It’s an idea that’s been in my head for years, that notion of the world watching as man steps back in time, two American Chrononauts wearing special suits as they step into the past on live television and plant an American flag in 1492, the day before Columbus arrives. Like they’re marking their spot in time.”

Any time a Mark Millar book hits shelves, speculation is sure to follow regarding an eventual adaptation to the big screen. The multiple Eisner Award winner has already seen his original properties Wanted and Kick-Ass transition from the printed page to the silver screen, and his recent science fiction epic Starlight was optioned for adaptation before the first issue even hit shelves, as was MPH.

The first issue comes out in March, and will feature variant covers from Fiona Staples (Saga), Ryan Ottley (Invincible), Declan Shalvey (Moon Knight), Matteo Scalera (Outcast), and Dan Panosian (Prophet).

MARK MILLAR & SEAN GORDON MURPHY TRAVEL THROUGH TIME IN CHRONONAUTS

Early process artwork revealed

for new science-fiction, humor series

Bestselling writer Mark Millar (Kingsman: Secret Service, Kick-Ass, WANTED) and artist Sean Gordon Murphy (PUNK ROCK JESUS, The Wake) team up for a time-travel adventure story that puts a fresh spin on the science fiction genre in CHRONONAUTS. Image Comics is pleased to reveal process pages, inks and final colors, from issue #1.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Millar likened CHRONONAUTS to “Apollo 13 meets The Time Machine,” and added: “It’s essentially a buddy story about two best friends who can jump around between 16th-century Persia, the American Civil War, or New York in the ’20s.”

In CHRONONAUTS, Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly are two buddies who love to have fun. They’re also scientific geniuses. When their research leads them to a time-traveling adventure, will they use their knowledge for the good of all mankind? Or use the space-time continuum for their own ends? CHRONONAUTS is the story of man’s first, televised steps through the time-stream and and everything going wrong in the process.
