Four years ago, Marvel did something unexpected that changed pop culture and comic history. Marvel took their Spider-Man from their Ultimate universe, and after Peter Parker’s death, rose a new Spider-Man from the ashes. Fans were introduced to the half-black half-hispanic Miles Morales, nephew to The Prowler in the Ultimate Universe.
Miles Morales took the world by storm, now he’s going to do it again as he becomes the front-runner in Marvel’s new SPIDER-MAN #1 coming this Fall, taking over Peter Parker’s place in the spotlight. How will two Spider-Man co-exist in the same universe if Peter sticks to the tights? What’s going to happen to Peter Parker? Brian Michael Bendis already confirmed that Peter will still be operating as Spider-Man, so how will this impact Miles?
I’m excited to see where Marvel’s going to go with this. Miles made such a huge impact on fans of Spider-Man when he was first introduced to us, and now in a larger universe, how will he fair?
Here’s a brief description of the upcoming series.
A stranger in a strange land, Miles patrols the rooftops of a New York City that is very different from the one he knew. A world where countless heroes guard it’s skies and streets. A world where Miles is counted among the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers. A world where Peter Parker is still alive. Though their paths have crossed before the landmark series Spider-Men, with Miles now living in Peter’s universe – is this town big enough for two Spider-Men? More importantly – how did Miles come to be here in the first place?!
We were already treated with an image of Marvel’s upcoming ALL NEW ALL DIFFERENT AVENGERS title, which includes Miles in the lineup of heroes.
Pick up SPIDER-MAN #1 this fall and swing into action with Miles as he takes on a whole new world.
