Deadline is reporting that Paul Bettany, who has voiced the artificial intelligence JARVIS program in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has signed on to play the staple Avenger The Vision in the forthcoming Age of Ultron film.
In July we theorized here at Capeless that JARVIS would provide the virtual foundation for Ultron, in keeping with the ongoing theme of the Iron Man films wherein Tony Stark’s technology is turned against him.
Given Bettany’s long-standing role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be an uncharacteristic misstep for the studio to assume that fans would not recognize the actor’s voice in a different role, so it stands to reason that Bettany’s Vision will be a new evolution of JARVIS. It is entirely likely that the conflict between the JARVIS consciousness and that of Ultron will be a central element of the film.
It would seem that the theories posted here were right all along, so we’ll have to see if we can go two-for-two! Keep checking in!
