Image’s ROCKET GIRL Set to Return in August

One of Image’s recent hits, Rocket Girl, has been on hiatus while its creative team worked on more mainstream projects. Now, the duo behind the book returns from their stint on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur to launch a new arc in August.

The Portland-based independent comic book publisher announced in a press release today that the eighth issue of the series will debut in the first week of August, appearing on comic book shop shelves on August 2, 2017.

It has been nearly a year and a half since the last issue of Rocket Girl, with the seventh issue having been released in December of 2015.

Writer Brandon Montclare looked to allay concerns over further delays, saying that he and co-creator Amy Reeder “have a pile of issues ready for the fans.”

While a critical success, Rocket Girl has so far met with only modest sales success. The last issue sold just over 6,300 copies at the distributor level, good for a spot on Diamond’s Top 300, but only ranking 285th overall.

Image has released a short preview of the issue, which you can read below.

THIS AUGUST USHERS IN THE RETURN OF ROCKET GIRL
Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder’s time-bending
teen tale returns with issue #8

PORTLAND, OR, 06/19/2017 — Writer Brandon Montclare (Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur) and artist Amy Reeder (Madame Xanadu, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur) will release the eagerly anticipated eighth issue of their ongoing series ROCKET GIRL this August.

DaYoung Johansson, teen cop from the future, discovered first-hand that time travel is anything but simple. Now, she’s relaunching her investigation into crimes against time as her adventures in the ’80s start to pick up.

“I know what’s going to happen, and I’m still amazingly excited to see ROCKET GIRL return!” said Montclare. “This comic is as much fun for me to read as it is to make. Amy and I have a pile of issues ready for the fans—can’t wait to blow you all away.”

“I don’t mean to sound alarmist, but everything we’ve done so far with ROCKET GIRL has been leading up to these next few, completed issues,” said Reeder. “Major things are about to happen! And I for one wouldn’t want to hear the gossip second-hand at the water cooler.”

ROCKET GIRL #8 (Diamond code: JUN170695) hits comic book stores Wednesday, August 2nd. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, July 10th.
