Image Comics Garners 20 Eisner Nominations for 2017


2017 Best Writer Eisner Nominee Ed Brubaker (Criminal, Velvet, Kill or be Killed)

Last week, Comic-Con International announced the nominees for the 2017 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, and Image Comics boasts 20 nominations, proving once again that the publisher continues to be a showcase for powerful and acclaimed creator-driven works.

The Eisner Awards are presented by Comic-Con International, San Diego. The organization is a non-profit devoted to increasing public awareness and appreciation of comics as an art form and entertainment medium, and every years presents the awards, which is named after legendary comics creator and pioneer Will Eisner. Winners in each category are selected through a vote by industry professionals.

This year, Image has a wide selection of titles and creators nominated. Writer Ed Brubaker received a nomination for Best Writer based on his work on Image titles Kill or be Killed, Velvet, and the Criminal 10th Anniversary One-Shot, while Brian K. Vaughan also received nods for his work on Paper Girls and the perpetually acclaimed Saga. Jeff Lemire (Descender, Plutona) and Max Landis (Green Valley) round out the Image nominees in the Best Writer Category.

On the art side, Image also garnered recognition, with Fiona Staples receiving a nomination for her penciling/inking work on Saga, Sam Takeda earning a nomination in the Best Painter/Multimedia category for Monstress, and both of them also being nominated for Best Cover Artist alongside Sean Phillips (Criminal, Kill or be Killed). In the Best Colorist category, Elizabeth Breitweiser was nominated for a slew of work for Image, as was Matt Wilson, while Jean-Francois Beaulieu got a nom for Green Valley.

PORTLAND, OR, 05/08/2017 — Comic-Con International announced the nominations for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards 2017 last week. Seventeen nominations were for books published by Image Comics, and an additional three nominations were shared with other publishers, bringing the total nominations for Image Comics to twenty. In celebration, digital editions of all nominated titles are on sale at Comixology and ImageComics.com.
