With Guardians of the Galaxy in its pre-production stages and the hype/anticipation surrounding Marvel’s phase two movies growing exponentially, rumors about casting decisions have been flying out the woodwork.
Last month, according to Deadline, Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Movie 43, Zero Dark Thirty) was cast as the lead, Peter Quill also known as Star Lord, in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film set to be released August 2014. As of late, however, several actors have been having back and forth negotiations to play Drax the Destroyer, one of whom was Jason Mamoa of Game of Thrones fame, but it was Dave Bautista, as announced by The Hollywood Report, who was signed on to play Drax.
Dave Bautista, a former WWE wrestler, certainly has the build to play Drax the Destroyer, but will he have the acting chops to pull this off. None of this may matter, however, seeing as how Marvel hasn’t acknowledged or confirmed any of these rumors as of yet. There are several conventions coming up where we can only hope Marvel will shed more light on this project, but until then we’ll have to just rely on hearsay.
