According to Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool, a number of sources are reporting that DC Comics will be featuring the villains of the DC New 52 in an upcoming arc.
This is not the first time that DC has launched such an initiative, but it is the first time that such an event has occurred in the New 52 universe. From that perspective, it makes a great deal of sense that such a thing would occur in the DC Universe at this point. Over the last year-and-change since the launch of the New 52, the universe has become increasingly crowded with super hero organizations. We have Justice League, Team 7, The Outlaws, Teen Titans, Justice League: Dark, Stormwatch, and the upcoming Justice League of America.
To put it mildly, the villains of the New 52 are grossly outmatched, and it doesn’t take the genius of a Lex Luthor or The Riddler to make the logical leap that, in order to compete in such an environment, the criminal element has to become more cohesive. This is the same concept of escalation that Jim Gordon mentions to Batman in Batman Begins. When the heroes begin to form teams, it is only a matter of time until the villains begin to do the same.
What will be interesting to observe is how this event differs from previous iterations, given that it is happening at a point in relative continuity that is much earlier in the careers of these respective characters.
