It’s easy to get excited about the upcoming Image title The Wicked + the Divine from Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. It tells the story of modern gods who are worshipped as celebrities but only live for a few years.
We listed it on our 4 Image Comics to Watch Out For, and clearly the publisher thinks its got something special on its hands as the latest info drop includes praise from some of Image’s most notable names. Revealed today too is the Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott Pilgrim, Seconds) variant cover for issue one.
O’Malley is one of the biggest names in cult comics and lending his art and signature style to this series on its opening issue (that drops on the 18th of next month) give us hope that this series can live up to the hype its generated.
On the topic of hype, I’m going to leave below all known current covers available for the first issue as well as some of the sterling testimonials revealed today that include the names of Brubaker (Fatale, Velvet, The Fade Out), Hickman (East of West), Remender (Black Science), and Fraction (Sex Criminals).
