With the 2016 US Presidential election on the horizon and candidates already making headlines as primaries ramp up, creator Sam Humphries is throwing his hat into the ring with Citizen Jack, an ongoing horror-comedy series from independent comic book publisher Image Comics.
Planned for release in November, Citizen Jack will chronicle the journey of Jack Northworthy, a politician with a secret weapon: a demonic helper.
Sure to appeal to political wonks and conspiracy theorists alike, Humprhies intends the series to be a withering critique of the sad state of American politics, saying in the press release “My fellow Americans, we’ve all had the experience of following politics and having one of two reactions: screaming in terror, or laughing to stop the screaming. In that sense, Citizen Jack is the Great American Comic Book.”
The first issue of Citizen Jack will hit stands on November 4th, 2015, just one year before Americans will cast their ballots for the next President of the United States.

A BRAND NEW ONGOING SERIES
Sam Humphries and Tommy Patterson introduce a new horror-comedy just in time for election season
As America dives into the terrifying farce of election season, Image Comics is proud to announce CITIZEN JACK, a brand new horror-comedy for everyone who hates politics. Created by blockbuster writer Sam Humphries (Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men: Black Vortex) and New York Times bestselling artist Tommy Patterson (Game of Thrones), CITIZEN JACK debuts on November 4th, 2015.
Every presidential candidate has a skeleton in the closet—but Jack worships the devil. CITIZEN JACK tells the story of Jack Northworthy, a scandal-plagued small town politician, who should in no way be president. But he has a secret weapon: Marlinspike, a malevolent demon of high ambitions. Together, they’re running for president in an outrageous campaign that America will never forget.
Co-creator Humphries first made headlines with his creator-owned debut at Image Comics in 2011. The reprint of the self-released one-shot OUR LOVE IS REAL turned heads around the industry with an edgy premise and an unexpectedly sweet story about one man’s “best friend.” That one-shot launched a career that has him writing some of Marvel Entertainment’s biggest stars, including international movie icon The Legendary Star-Lord.
Now, Humphries makes his triumphant return to Image. He and artist Patterson have enlisted an all-star team including editor Jeanine Shaefer, designer Dylan Todd, with colors by John Alderink, and letters by Rachel Deering.
”My fellow Americans, we’ve all had the experience of following politics and having one of two reactions: screaming in terror, or laughing to stop the screaming,” said Humphries. “In that sense, Citizen Jack is the Great American Comic Book.”
Patterson added: “My excitement for Citizen Jack corresponds with my fright of and amusement at our current system. When you peel back the layers of our modern day world you’ll find some shadowy figures pulling strings. Once you see it you can’t look away.”
