The last time we saw the Iron Patriot armor in the Marvel universe was sometime in 2010 during Marvel’s Siege event. At that time, it was Norman Osborn, mad with power and controlling a new organization called H.A.M.M.E.R. in the place of the dismantled (at his own hands) S.H.I.E.L.D., who wore the Iron Patriot armor, but the next time we see the Iron Patriot armor won’t be that far off. As a matter of fact, the next time we see the Iron Patriot armor, as confirmed by Marvel, will be this May when Don Cheadle dons it as Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes in Iron Man 3.
There are, however, a lot of questions that are left unanswered, even with this new promotional poster. Is this a whole new armor that was designed and called Iron Patriot armor or just Rhodey’s old War Machine armor with a fresh paint job and rebranded as Iron Patriot armor? Why is Rhodey now donning this new look? Or is this a decision made by his superiors? Will Rhodey go the way of Norman Osborn and start causing trouble for his long time friend, Tony Stark?
I doubt that last one, but it all remains to be seen when Iron Man 3 drops in a couple months on May 3rd.
