After the solid run Moon Knight has had over the last two years under some solid creative teams, it seems as though Marvel Comics has settled on a winning formula. Pair an artist whose version resonates with a writer at the top of their game and let the two go to town. That approach is evident in today’s announcement that the character will be relaunching with a new #1 issue this April.
The creative team of Jeff Lemire and Greg Smallwood will be handling Marc Spector as he sets out on a new journey. Lemire is in the midst of an incredibly prolific run, having handled Hawkeye for Marvel while simultaneously being Valiant Comics’ flagship writer on Bloodshot. Smallwood is returning to Moon Knight after having taken over the lead on art when Declan Shalvey departed along with Warren Ellis after issue #6 of the relaunched series. His approach to the character was obviously well-received enough for Marvel to bring him back for a second shot. How his art meshes with Lemire’s script will go a long way to determining the overall success of the new series.
Marvel has released a four-page preview of the first issue of Moon Knight, which you can check out below.
