Today Marvel released solicitations for the first books in a second wave of Marvel NOW!-branded titles.
They will be relaunching/renumbering Jonathan Hickman & Jerome Opena’s Avengers in December with the first issue bearing both #24.NOW (from the previous numbering) and #1, the “All-New Marvel NOW!” numbering. This is sure to draw some criticism from the market as the issue picks up after the events of Infinity, making this less of a relaunch and more of a straight-up renumbering move.
In January, the first issue of “DC Refugees” *ahem Joke ahem*… The first issue of “All-New Invaders #1” hits stands. It is the first ongoing Marvel project for creators James Robinson (who walked off of DC’s “Earth-2” in August) and Steve Pugh (also a former DC creator who walked off of Animal Man). The series will feature a reunion of the WWII era members of the team, namely Captain America, Winter Soldier, Namor, and the original Human Torch. Robinson is arguably at his bet when handling characters from this era, and Pugh more than proved himself with his work on Animal Man, so this title should be one to look for.
The final book announced was “Inhuman #1” from Matt Fraction and Joe Maduiera. As we reported yesterday, Marvel is building toward something big with the Inhumans, and this book will certainly be at the center of it.
The most surprising move is the decision by Marvel to offer digital codes for entire series collections of NOW titles at no additional cost. This will apply to only select books, but it is a great move to ensure that these relaunches do serve as adequate entry points, as at least one series (Avengers) will be picking up where the previous series left off.
