First Generation films announced today that it is moving forward with a television adaptation of Jeff Lemire‘s critically acclaimed Essex County graphic novel.
Aaron Martin, winner of the 2004 WGC award for his work on Degrassi: The Next Generation, will pen the adaptation for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Martin will also serve as showrunner for the series, having seen success in that role on Degrassi as well as Saving Hope, Killjoys, and the forthcoming Slashers series.
The series will be based on the story in the original series from Top Shelf Productions, which chronicles the lives of a family across multiple generations.
Essex County marks the second Lemire creation which is slated to head to live-action, with Sony having optioned his Image Comics creator-owned series Descender prior to the first issue’s release in January.
“Essex County is a vivid and haunting book that has inspired a dedicated and distinguished following. We are thrilled Jeff has agreed to collaborate with FGF to bring his vision to the screen,” said First Generation Films President Christina Piovesan.
No release date has been set for the series, but further developments are certain to come soon.
