Image & Top Cow To Release Gritty Sci-Fi Graphic Novel “Golgotha” This Fall

Image Comics and Top Cow are releasing a graphic novel called Golgotha this October, a gritty sci-fi story about the first human off-world colony that explores real-world concerns.

Written by Matt Hawkins (“Think Tank”) and Bryan Hill (“Postal”) with art by Yuki Saeki (“GameSpace”), Golgotha tells the story of Mike, a disgraced but effective soldier who is “volunteered” for humanity’s first mission to establish an off-world colony. He and the crew of the Golgotha head into cryogenic suspension for the 80 year-long trip, but Mike awakens at his destination after a crash-landing only to find that technological advances back on Earth mean the planet has been long-colonized. The inhabitants of the colony have been waiting for the Golgotha to arrive, but was the ship’s crash accidental, or is it part of a growing unrest at the colony? And what place will a solder like Mike find in a supposedly utopian society?

Golgotha combines my obsession with religion and science fiction, and was a fun project to do,” said Hawkins. “Bryan Hill and I always looked at this as a kind of Apocalypse Now meets 2001 mash-up.” Saeki had this to say about the graphic novel, “Golgotha is the most hardcore science fiction story I’ve worked on…It’s packed with action and mystery. I had fun drawing it.”

ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:

SCI-FI REALISM REACHES NEW HEIGHTS IN GOLGOTHA
THIS OCTOBER

PORTLAND, OR, 08/01/2017 — Writer and Top Cow President/COO Matt Hawkins (THINK TANK, SYMMETRY) teams up with writer Bryan Hill (POSTAL, ROMULUS) and artist Yuki Saeki (GameSpace, Crash) for the grittily realistic science fiction graphic novel GOLGOTHA this October.

In the near future, a group of scientists and military operatives are sent on an interplanetary mission to develop Earth’s first off-world colony. While the crew of the Golgotha hibernates for travel, technology on Earth continues to advance—so much so that when they land on the planet, the crew finds it already inhabited…by another team from Earth that arrived years before they have.

Now the crew of the Golgotha find themselves relics of their own time, unwanted by the colony that’s been expecting them for a generation. And this new planet holds its own secrets—secrets that could change the nature of humankind itself.

“GOLGOTHA combines my obsession with religion and science fiction, and was a fun project to do,” said Hawkins. “Bryan Hill and I always looked at this as a kind of Apocalypse Now meets 2001 mash-up.”

“GOLGOTHA is the most hardcore science fiction story I’ve worked on,” said Saeki. “It’s packed with action and mystery. I had fun drawing it.”

GOLGOTHA (Diamond code: AUG170552, ISBN: 978-1-5343-0320-1) arrives in comic book stores Wednesday, October 25th and bookstores Tuesday, October 31st. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, September 25th.

GOLGOTHA is available for preorder via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound, and Indigo.
