Image Comics, in partnership with Top Cow Productions, announced yesterday the upcoming release of a bold and gritty new science fiction series called Port of Earth.
Written by rising talent Zack Kaplan, a television writer who made a splash with his Image/Top Cow series “Eclipse”, Port of Earth is the story of Earth’s first contact with an alien society. But the aliens are neither an invading menace nor beneficent diplomats. Instead, they have come to Earth in the name of commerce; they want to open a spaceport on Earth in exchange for sharing with us their advanced technology. The plot of the series revolves around the Earth Security Agency, a newly created law enforcement arm charged with dealing with those aliens who break port restrictions and cause trouble in human areas.
Kaplan will be teamed on the series with artist Andrea Mutti, most recently known for his work with on Dark Horse’s “Rebels” series. Mutti demonstrated his enthusiasm for the science fiction genre when discussing Port of Earth, saying, “My passion for sci-fi is very ancient, beginning when I was really young with ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Galactica,’ ‘Space 1999,’ ‘UFO,’ ‘Alien,’ and dozens of other books and comics…I’m thrilled to be on PORT OF EARTH, such a cool project, full of great visuals, action, and an emotional touch; what else could a comic artist need?”
As for Kaplan, he had this to say, “After exploring the solar apocalypse in “Eclipse”…I’m thrilled to be tackling a very unique alien arrival story with another amazing creative team!”
Port of Earth will be released In November, 2017.
