Skottie Young has one of the most recognizable and in-demand art styles in comics. His cartoony, impish style has graced hundreds of main and variant covers over his career, and now he’s lending his considerable talents to the first issue of Charles Soule and Ryan Browne‘s Curse Words.
The series, billed as an evil wizard’s arrival in New York and subsequent hi-jinx, arrives in stores next month. With a Young variant attached the launch, sales on the book’s first issue will likely spike before final-order-cutoff on December 19th. It would be no surprise to see this series in Diamond’s Top 100 when January’s results are released.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
SKOTTIE YOUNG VARIANT REVEALED
Fans of I HATE FAIRYLAND
Image Comics is pleased to reveal a special, cheeky variant cover for CURSE WORDS #1 by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne featuring artwork by I HATE FAIRYLAND’s Skottie Young (I HATE FAIRYLAND).
Young’s characteristic wit is on display in this cover featuring CURSE WORDS’ main character, Wizord… Erm, expressing his contempt for the stereotypical “wizard” people are familiar with… as Margaret watches on disapprovingly.
In CURSE WORDS #1, a wizard has appeared in New York City, and he’s casting wonderful spells, getting famous, getting rich—it’s great! But it’s not. This wizard has everyone fooled. He is actually an evil wizard, and evil things are on the way. CURSE WORDS is a gonzo modern fantasy, full of darkness, light… and magic.
CURSE WORDS #1 Cover B by Young (Diamond Code NOV160538) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, January 18th. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, December 19th.
