Dynamite Comics Previews for May 7, 2014

Dynamite Comics shows the range of their publishing line this week with a mix of horror, fantasy, action, and Western titles. Much of Dynamite’s recent success has been rebooting or reimagining properties from defunct comics companies. For example, Greg Pak and Mirko Colak’s Turok:Dinosaur Hunter series is part of their initiative to reboot some of the defunct Gold Key Comics’ books with popular writers, like Pak, Mark Waid, and Fred Van Lente. The first arc of Turok comes to a close this week with our titular hero caught between Templars, friendly dinosaurs, and some that aren’t so tame. As well as having a lot of “thunder lizard” action, this comic will hopefully continue to explore the language barrier between Turok, the tribe that exiled him, and the invading Templars. This lack of communication has been the impetus for most of the conflict in the opening arc as well as the chaotic nature of the dinosaurs.
As well as Gold Key Comics, Dynamite has also decided the reboot the characters and properties of Chaos! Comics, a small horror publisher that was active from 1994-2002 and even released a thrash metal album to tie-in with their Evil Ernie and Lady Death comics. In 2012, Dynamite rebooted Evil Ernie, a serial killer who can reanimate corpses and draw what will happen in the future, in the Evil Ernie: Origin of Evil miniseries. However, Chaos! brings him and his Chaos! universe compatriots together for the first time since the bankruptcy of Chaos! Comics. Writer Tim Seeley has experience dealing with the undead in his current Image series Revival as well as Hack/Slash, which featured a female protagonist in a world full of creepy monsters.
Here are the rest of Dynamite’s comics releases for May 7, 2014, including a new issue of Gail Simone’s Red Sonja and the end of a two-part urban pulp Miss Fury story set in the City of Brotherly Love.
