Marvel announced today that the well-loved Wade Wilson, the Merc With a Mouth, will be getting the prose treatment late next summer.
The publisher tapped novelist and comics writer Stefan Petrucha to pen a new novel entitled Deadpool: Paws. The New-York based writer has worked with licensed properties such as X-Files, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and even Generation X, so Deadpool should come as no stranger to him.
Marvel has a long history of doing prose adaptations of their comic book characters, as well as novels adapting the films which feature their characters. In recent years, however, they have ramped up the production schedule, with three novels being released in 2014, including a Days of Future Past adaptation based on Chris Claremont’s original work, an original novel starring Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon and Groot from heralded creator Dan Abnett, and October’s Spider-Man: Kraven’s Last Hunt from writer Neil Kleid.
It should be interesting to see how Deadpool translates to the picture-less page, and how his trademark fourth-wall-breaking hilarity will work in a different medium.
Deadpool: Paws is due out August 5, 2015.
