ComiXology Security Breach Prompts Mass Password Resets

Early Thursday morning, ComiXology, the leading platform for purchasing digital comics, sent an email to its entire user base notifying them that “an unauthorized individual accessed a database of [theirs] that contained usernames, email addresses, and cryptographically protected passwords.”

This comes on the heels of multiple high-profile security breaches in recent months, including such online giants as Target, Kickstarter, Yahoo!, and Sears.

ComiXology was the number 3 App in Apple’s App Store for 2013, with over 1,000,000 digital copies sold to date.

In the email, ComiXology assures users that payment information was not stored in the hacked database, but the company is requiring that all users go through a password reset process.

The company apologized to users and issued assurances that steps are being taken to improve security.
