About a month ago, I said that it was pretty unlikely that we would be getting a Booster Gold movie and man am I glad I was wrong because it sounds like DC might actually be bringing both Booster Gold and his buddy the Blue Beetle to the big screen after all.
A report from the Tracking Board states that Warner Bros. is currently developing a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle live-action feature film that will be directed by Greg Berlanti, the executive producer behind The CW’s DC superhero TV series Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Heroic Hollywood is claiming that the script will be written by superhero film vet Zak Penn (The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand, Elektra).
“In a massively different approach from Warner’s current slate, the film will team the two heroes together in what’s being pitched as a superhero buddy cop movie,” according to Tracking Board. “Comedy is the emphasis here, which is a stark contrast to the other titles in DC’s Cinematic Universe, breaking the mold of the uber serious and grounded Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Michael Jon Carter aka Booster Gold, was once a famous football player from the distant future until his career fell apart when he was caught betting on his own games. Still hungry for fame and fortune, he stole a power suit and a robot sentry named Skeets from the superhero museum that he was working at as a security guard. After creating the identity Booster Gold, he then used a time machine to travel back to modern time to use his knowledge of the future and advanced technology to turn himself into a superhero celebrity. At first Booster was only in it for the fame and glory, but over time he eventually comes to prove himself to be an actual hero.
It’s unknown which version of the Blue Beetle character that they plan on using for the movie will be but the Ted Kord version of the character seems like the most likely choice.
No actors have been reported to be attached to the project at the moment, but if DC is really planning on making this movie than maybe Nathan Fillion might get his chance to play Booster Gold after all.
