BOOM! To Debut New Titles In December Including “Escape From New York #1”

BOOM! Studios has released a list of new comic titles the publisher and it’s subsidiaries will be debuting before the end of the year which include everything from speed-racing rocket mechanics in space, hordes of human clones and the triumphant return of one of the most bad-ass characters to ever be conceived, Snake Plissken! New titles making their first issue debut in December include:

“Escape From New York #1″ (BOOM!)
“Eternal #1” (of 4) (BOOM!)
“Abigail and the Snowman #1” (of 4) (KaBOOM!)
“BOOM! Box 2014 Mix tape #1” (BOOM!)
Rocket Salvage (Archaia)

Escape From New York, based on the popular 1981 John Carpenter film of the same name starring Kurt Russell, came about after BOOM!’s recent success with their Big Trouble in Little China comic series also based off the popular John Carpenter film starring Kurt Russell. While this is the series that I am personally anticipating the most, some of the other titles seem pretty promising as well. You can check out descriptions and cover art for each series from the official press release below.

WHY WE LOVE IT: We can’t get enough John Carpenter! It means so much to us to have brought Big Trouble in Little China to comics the right way. The response has been so strong that we knew we had to bring another Carpenter classic to comics in a style and approach that does Escape from New York justice.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: If you already love the Escape from New York film, this is a no-brainer. But if Escape from New York is new to you, writer Christopher Sebela has been garnering high praise for his recent BOOM! Studios original Dead Letters, as well as for his Eisner Award-nominated original, High Crimes.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT: The crime rate in the United States has risen 400 percent. After humiliating the President in front of the world and destroying America’s one chance to end World War III, Snake Plissken has become America’s Most Wanted man in a land of criminals and the insane. Everyone wants Snake dead. Luckily, Snake knows the feeling all too well. War hero. Outlaw. Renegade. Snake’s back!

Retail Price: $3.99
Author: William Harms
Artist: Giovanni Valletta
Cover Artists: A: Frazer Irving B: Greg Smallwood (Incentive)
WHY WE LOVE IT: We love giving readers smart and thrilling science fiction books, such as The Hypernaturals, Six-Gun Gorilla, and our adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. We continue that tradition with Eternal, a story where humans can continually make clones of themselves, so death is a thing of the past. We need to know: What does a world like that look like?
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: William Harms (Imapler, inFAMOUS) is crafting a gripping, sophisticated story about what happens if science completely changes the rules of life itself. This is a story where characters’ ethics and loyalties are tested, for society has changed but human failings remain the same.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT: In a world of clones, the Human Liberation Army wants to free people from New Life’s grasp. Their leader Gail will take the most drastic, personal measures yet to do so. Rathmann, a former homicide detective turned New Life enforcer, is on the case, and is asking tough questions. Violet, a young girl and one of the few non-cloned humans (Pures, they’re called) left, is longing to enter the real world. But she has no idea the danger she is stepping into.

After working with Roger on Jim Henson’s the Musical Monsters of Turkey Hollow, we couldn’t wait to set him loose on his first creator-owned series since the Eisner Award-winning Snarked. The fact that there are Yetis in this only made us even more confident Roger’s latest is going to be something special.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: The story of an imaginative young girl who befriends a sophisticated Yeti is perfect for fans of all-ages classics like Monsters, Inc. and Lilo and Stitch, while Roger’s fun, often hilarious art will be admired by fans who grew up on Calvin and Hobbes.
