Bendis To Guard Galaxy. Loeb Goes Nova.

Saturday at NYCC Marvel announced a brand-new Guardians Of The Galaxy series written by Brian Michael Bendis (Daredevil, New Avengers) and drawn by Steve McNiven (Civil War, Old Man Logan).

This should come as no surprise to those keeping track, as Marvel revealed earlier this year that GotG is in line to get it’s very own Hollywood makeover sometime in 2014, going head-to-head with Thanos (that menacing purple guy shown halfway through The Avengers movie credits). Also not surprising is attaching two of Marvel’s biggest names to the project, insuring that plenty of readers will be well-versed in the GotG cast by the time the movie hits.

Starlord, Rocket Racoon, Drax, Gamora, and Groot (I AM GROOT!) will all be returning, plus an interesting new member as well: The Avengers’ Iron Man. Whether it’s Tony Stark or not is unclear, though the armor shown does appear to be completely new.

Guardians Of The Galaxy starts with a 0.1 issue in February, followed by issue #1 in March, and according to Marvel the team will “tackle the threats too big for the Avengers.”

Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Head Of Television, Superman/Batman) and Ed McGuinness (Hulk, Avengers: X-Sanction) were also announced as creators of an all-new Nova series, though it doesn’t appear to be the Richard Rider Nova. This is the new Nova, named Sam Alexander, who recently made a short-but-sweet cameo in Marvel’s line-wide event Avengers vs. X-Men. Nova is also geared to launch February 2013.
