Marvel Comics has released it’s annual Holiday Gift Guide for 2013, with some great highlights for the super-hero lover in your family (who are we kidding, we know YOU want all of this).
Each of the highlighted items seems to have a connection to Marvel’s plans for the next several years, with the Phase I box set and Age of Ultron hardcover being the most obvious.
Age of Ultron may have been a bit of a mess as an event, but with the synthetic villain set to feature prominently in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe very soon, the reasons behind this are obvious. The hardcover would give new readers a chance to get to know the character, and it’s been suggested by our friends at Fanboys Inc that certain elements of this story may even feature into Avengers 2. All of the Phase 1 films, custom-designed art, and a briefcase so awesome that Marvel was sued for using the design without the rights. The best thing about this item is that, if you’re a long-time fan who’s been trying to get, say, your significant other into the Marvel Cinematic Universe before taking them to see Thor 2, this is a one-stop shop for everything they need to get caught up.
The fact that Marvel chose these particular items to highlight shows that they are definitely focusing on the movie side of the business as they ramp up for 2014. Whether this will pay dividends for them in the long run remains to be seen but, so far Marvel Studios has been a real workhouse for the House of Ideas and it looks to continue that trend into the new year.
