ALENA ready for her year abroad, courtesy of Dark Horse

Dark Horse has announced it is prepping the graphic novel Alena for an English market release later this year. The original book, written by Kim W. Andersson, was released in Sweden in 2012, and won the Adamson Statue, Sweden’s most prestigious comic book award. In addition to making waves across the Swedish award circuit, it has been adapted into a feature length film which is currently making its rounds across American film festivals.

The book tells the story of Alena, a young student whose life is a living hell. Ever since arriving at a snobbish boarding school, she’s been harassed by other students. Her friend Josephine has had enough, and will not accept this treatment anymore. Not from the indifferent counselor, or the pandering principal, not from anyone. If Alena doesn’t stand up for herself, Josephine will step up for her friend. Only thing is, Josephine’s been dead for a year…

Alena will make its English market debut on August 24th, but you can already pre-order your copy from your local comic book shop.
